VERSI-FOAM® SYSTEMS BY RHH FOAM SYSTEMS STANDARD SYSTEMS
This spray foam insulation product is recommended for most commercial and industrial applications. Ideal for air-sealing, insulating and condensation control.
FLAME RETARDANT (FR) SYSTEMS
These systems have added flame retardants which reduce the flame spread and smoke development of the foam. Suitable for insulating inhabited buildings, including residential applications or any applications in which flammability is a concern. Classified as Class I in accordance with ASTM E-84.
ABOUT CLOSED CELL SPRAY FOAM
Versi-Foam® 2 lb closed cell spray foam insulation kits are available in two different formulations: Standard Formula and Class I (flame-retardant) Formula. The Standard Formula provides an R-value of 7.7 at a one-inch thickness. Recommended for most commercial and industrial applications, the Standard Formula is ideal for air sealing, wall or ceiling insulation, condensation control, sound dampening, structural enhancement, tank and pipe insulation, roof repair, marine flotation, truck/trailer insulation, sculpting and molding, pool and spa insulation, and much more.
The Class I (flame-retardant) Formula provides an R-value 6.7 at a one-inch thickness. Classified as Class I in accordance with ASTM E-84, these flame-retardant kits will limit the flame spread and smoke development if exposed to a fire. Class I closed cell spray foam kits are recommended for use in inhabited buildings, including residential applications or any application in which flammability is a concern. Always consult your local building codes to determine if a flame-retardant product is required for your application.
All of our Class I kits are manufactured with an anti-microbial formula that stops mold from growing on the surface of the foam. All Versi-Foam® products are naturally mold resistant, but the added anti-microbial element provides a safeguard against the growth of the five most common types of fungi found in homes.
ABOUT OPEN CELL SPRAY FOAM KITS
Versi-Foam® open cell foam kits have a density of approximately 0.75 pounds per cubic foot. It is 92% open cell and has an insulation R-value of 4, lower than the other Versi-Foam systems, but still superior to some of the other commonly used insulation materials. The appeal of this product is its high expansion rate. Less foam is needed during application which makes it more cost effective.
Open cell Versi-Foam® kits are particularly dependent on temperature. The yield of open cell products will be greatly reduced in cooler temperatures. In order to fully expand, the open cell foam must utilize heat from the exothermic chemical reaction created when the two chemicals mix - in essence building off of its own heat reaction to reach its full expansion potential. The heat reaction is greater the thicker the foam is applied which helps the expansion. For this reason, open cell Versi-Foam® kits should never be applied in less than 2" passes. Even in the warmest temperatures, the open cell product should NEVER be used in "flash spray" (i.e. less than 2") applications, as yield will be GREATLY reduced.
These systems are best suited for residential roof deck applications (unvented attics, cathedral ceilings, and garage roofs). Some areas of the country (particularly Southern Regions) require open cell foam sprayed along the underside of the roof deck. In the presence of moisture, this low-density foam will dissipate the moisture quicker than closed cell foam. Open cell foam should be installed at a 2" thickness for air sealing applications.
It is also well suited for exterior wall applications where one inch of closed cell foam is applied to the exterior sheathing and then filled with open cell foam. Please note that a vapor retardant would be required on the warm side of the building envelope when installing closed cell foam in conjunction with low density foam due to the open cell content.
